The Head of the Opposition, Hamzah Zainuddin, has called for Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resign, citing the controversial Urban Renewal Bill (RUU) and the upcoming visit of United States President Donald Trump to Kuala Lumpur, scheduled for the end of this month.
Speaking at a rally organised by the opposition in Kuala Lumpur on 4 October, Hamzah criticised the drafting of the bill and condemned the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza, which he claimed are supported by the United States. He also alleged that several government MPs, including those from UMNO and PKR, had voiced support for rejecting the Urban Renewal Bill.

According to Hamzah, Anwar had previously assured Parliament that the bill could be amended.
“Anwar, don’t fight only for the interests of developers. That’s why we are all gathered here to reject the URA,” Hamzah said during the protest.
In addition to the RUU, Hamzah also criticised Trump’s upcoming visit to Kuala Lumpur, urging Malaysians to oppose it.
“Say no to Trump, the biggest actor!”
Anwar had earlier defended the invitation, explaining that it was extended in Malaysia’s capacity as ASEAN chair, and that Trump’s visit is tied to regional-level discussions at the ASEAN Summit. Hamzah, however, argued that Trump should not be welcomed, especially amid the ongoing crisis in Gaza. He reiterated this stance in a video posted on his official Facebook page.
“Anwar, remember you once fought for justice! Step down, enough is enough!” he declared at the rally.

Hamzah further stated that the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime, backed by the United States, are among the reasons why Trump’s presence in Malaysia should be rejected.
What do you think of Hamzah’s take? Should Anwar step down, or is this just political theatre? Let us know in the comments below.
