It’s all fun and games when collecting Angpows during Chinese New Year until the money in the red packet is “gone”. A man recently lost himself RM100 after wrongly tearing off the Angpow he got, at the cost of the banknotes inside the packet.
Both RM50 banknotes in the Angpow were also torn apart

In a viral TikTok post, the man showed the torn Angpow and the damaged RM50 banknotes on the table. If you look closely, the top part of the red packet was torn off and not unsealed the usual way.
He then also showed another sealed Angpow with someone’s name written on it. However, he did not disclose the amount inside the other red packet.

Social media users gave their 2 cents
Social media users, on the other hand, suggested the man bring the torn banknotes to the bank so that he could replace them with new ones.
One of them also suggested the man sell the torn banknotes to him.

“Bring the banknotes to Bank Negara to replace them with new ones, as long as the serial number is visible.”
“You can’t use them anymore. Sell them to me, I buy them for RM20.”

“You can get them replaced at Bank Negara. They should accept it, but you’ll need to fill up some forms.”
Other netizens poked fun at the situation and assumed that the man was too excited to find out the amount.

“I know what you felt. You must be excited and couldn’t wait to see how much you got.”

“Thank God it wasn’t a purple banknote (RM100) inside.”
“You did it too quick.”
This shall serve as a reminder to all of us to contain our excitement while “unboxing” the Angpow we may be getting soon.
