For fans of getting their groceries from the wet market or those who enjoy food hunting at your local pasar malam, rejoice! After an extensive hiatus as a result of the MCO order, both morning and night markets in Malaysia are finally allowed to reopen. But, not without some major SOPs that both stall owners and customers have to adhere strictly by!

As one can expect, the enforcement of new norms to ensure the safety of all Malaysians continues to be paramount, even as the MCO reaches its recovery phase. And the government has not been lax when it comes to SOPs we all need to follow when visiting our favourite pasars, as Astro Awani reports.

The SOPs for those who wish to visit morning and night markets are as follows:

  1. All visitors are encouraged to wear face-masks at all times, and must undergo temperature screening and be given hand sanitiser.
  2. Visitors who record body temperatures of above 37.5 degrees-Celsius are forbidden to enter the premises.
  3. Visitors must download and register with the MySejahtera app and/or register their details in the provided registration books for purposes of ‘contact tracing’
  4. Visitors must not be either a PUS (Patient Under Surveillance), PUI (Patient Under Investigation), or is under quarantine.
  5. Visitors who have symptoms of cough and/or flu must wear a mask at all times.
  6. Only two (2) individuals from each family are allowed into wet market premises at any given time.
  7. Only visitors above the age of 13-years-old and above are allowed to enter market premises.
  8. Each visitor may only visit market premises for 30-minutes.
  9. When queuing up to enter, visitors must always maintain a social distance of 1-metre.
  10. Cashless/contactless transactions are encouraged.
  11. Movement of visitors must always be controlled; they may only enter through one entrance and leave through a separate exit.
  12. The amount of visitors allowed in each market is dependent on its size as prescribed by SOPs from DBKL.

On top of that, the operating hours for day and night markets are as follows:

  1. Day markets/open markets: 6.00am – 11.00am
  2. Night markets: 4.00pm – 10.00pm
  3. Bazaars: 5.00pm – 11.00pm
