Most of us know how Japan is famous for their onsen hot spring baths, which is a pretty unconventional practice.
Well, unconventional and baths are coming together this February at the Yunessun Spa Resort in Japan’s Hakone Prefecture as they debut their latest attraction – a hot spring bath filled to the brim with chocolate. A temporary service for Valentine’s Day season, people can pay JP¥2,900 (approx. RM107) to soak in a pool of molten chocolate. Talk about the ultimate fondue.
With chocolate sales for Valentine’s Day in Japan accounting for more than USD2.5 billion (approx. RM10 billion) per year, it’s no wonder this decadent bath literally has you swimming in it. Twice a day, at 1pm and 3pm, the Yunessun staff will pour in an entire litre of hot and fragrant melted chocolate into the tub. The creators say that the chocolate will seep into your pores and leave you smelling heavenly.
In addition to the sheer originality of the experience, it’s reported that the luxurious bath will beautify the skin with its deep cleansing properties and by breaking down cellulite. It also offers health benefits found in cocoa such as moisturising the skin and promoting blood circulation while you soak.
While most hot spring baths in Japan are sex-segregated and done completely nude, this special bath is unisex and strictly requires bathing suits to be worn. No skinny dipping!
This isn’t the first time Yunessun has done unconventional baths. Last year (2017), they let guests soak in a maple syrup “hot cake bath” for Pancake Day, which is apparently a thing.
Some of their other permanent exhibits, while slightly less wild, are still quite zany. Take, for example, their coffee baths, green tea baths and the eccentric pepper-pork broth ramen noodle baths.
They also have baths featuring red wine and Japanese sake, with huge pools filled with the actual liquids that can allegedly get people drunk.
So, if you’re one of those people who has always dreamed about soaking in a pool of chocolate or steaming yourself inside a giant instant-noodle cup, now you know where to go. 😉
What do you guys think about the chocolate bath? Would you take a dip with bae to celebrateV-Day? Tell us in the comments!
