One restriction applies to all forms of public transportation worldwide: you are not allowed to eat or drink while riding a bus or train.
However, in Malaysia, we frequently come into contact with passengers who consume sandwiches or pisang goreng while riding the train.
RapidKL recently shared two women eating on the train on their Facebook page.
The women held a cup of instant noodles each while tapping away on their phones.
In the post, RapidKL says:
“We never prepared hot water for you to eat Maggi on our train. When you’re done eating, you don’t even wear your mask.”
They continued by saying that there are reasons why they do not allow passengers to eat and drink on the trains.
The post has since garnered 800 shares at the time of writing.
Netizens in the comments wholeheartedly agree (for once), with RapidKL that there shouldn’t be any eating or drinking on public transportation.
“This species, if you advise them, they won’t listen to you, so just emergency brake and let the instant noodles go into their noses.”
“Correct. It becomes a problem when food and drinks are on the train. There will be drinks spilled and garbage everywhere. When it spills, the people don’t clean it. It causes discomfort to other passengers.”
Other netizens say that RapidKL should also play a part in this and not just shame them on social media.
“Yes, correct. Eating on trains is prohibited, but no actions are taken. Look at the Singaporean MRT; look at how they do it. Don’t only take pictures and post them on Facebook. Thank you.”
“There are CCTVs and PA speakers in all trains. The control centre can make announcements.”
No matter how tempting it smells, it’s better to not eat on public transportation unless it is an emergency (gastric or low blood sugar cases).
