In a recent tragic story making headlines, 4 students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun were involved in a horrific car accident that claimed the lives of 3 of them, while one is receiving further treatment at Dungun Hospital.
According to Bernama, Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Wan Rukman Wan Hassan mentioned that the incident was believed to have occurred when the 4 victims were returning to campus after having dinner.
“The woman is believed to be mentally ill”
The accident happened when a woman driving her SUV at high speed crashed into 4 students from behind, causing one of the motorcycles to be dragged about 60 meters after the impact.
In a recent update, Wan Rukman stated that preliminary investigations indicated the suspect, who is believed to be mentally ill, and the victims were travelling from Kuala Dungun to Teluk Gadung.
Victims tragically passed away due to broken bones
Wan Rukman explained that upon arriving at the scene, the suspect from Kampung Sura Tengah struck the back of the victims’ motorcycles, leading to the deaths of 3 individuals at the scene due to broken necks and injuries to the head and chest.
Today, at the Kuala Terengganu magistrate’s court, Magistrate Nur Amira Fatihah Osman granted the remand order, as reported by the New Straits Times. She arrived at court wearing purple prison attire around 9 AM.
“I was affected by this incident”
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his sadness over the tragic news by posting a tweet that reads:
“My condolences to all the family members of the UiTM Dungun students who returned to rahmatullah last night. This is a very heartbreaking case, and I myself was affected by this incident.”
He went on to express his hope that the families persevere in facing this tragedy and receive the justice they deserve.
