Unlike what Tun Dr Mahathir said in his press conference with Tengku Razaleigh yesterday (14 December), the Budget 2021 was approved in the final voting with 111 MPs in support, 108 MPs not supporting and 1 MP not present.

By having the Budget 2021 approved, this means that Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has not lost the vote of confidence from his MPs in his leadership.

What will happen now?

The government will be able to withdraw any amount of money from the Consolidated Fund for expenditure for the year 2021. To the relief of many, the Budget being approved means that there will not be a government dissolution and another general election in the nearest times.

Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul, proposed that the RM69 billion allocated in the budget to be used for the year 2021 for the development of the country which was approved through voice vote.

An MP from the Perikatan Nasional government said that the Budget 2021 being approved meant that the PN government is a caring one while MPs from the Opposition bloc repeatedly shouted “traitors”.
