Dental work can get pretty expensive, so a lot of people are always on the lookout for cheap dental services. However, when the price is too good to be true, it might just be fake.
Malaysian dentist Dr Arif, who is currently practising, shared on his Twitter page on how he discovered that one of his patient has had fake dental work done on him.
“A 52-year-old man came to the clinic for an extraction. He said that his teeth were shaking and when he eats, it becomes very painful.”
After Arif heard that and examined his mouth, he felt that something was off and decided to ask the patient where he got the dentures from.
Initially, the patient said that it was from a “private establishment in KL” but after being questioned further, he finally revealed that he got it done in a hotel room.
At that point in time, Arif already knew that the “dentist” was a quack and it turns out that the pair of badly-made dentures costed only RM500.
When asked on his reason for getting the dentures done, the patient said:
“I got it done 2 years ago as I wanted to get married. It would be embarrassing to not have teeth so when a cheap deal came, I just grabbed it.”
Unfortunately for the man, the low-quality dentures had caused irreversible damage to the point that all of the man’s teeth will have to be taken out.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Arif said that he took out all of the patient’s upper teeth that day and will need to extract the rest of the teeth on the lower jaw sometime in the future.
At the end of the thread, he gave 3 important pieces of advice which are:
- To take care of your teeth,
- Do frequent checks, if there is a problem at least it can be stopped earlier on, &
- Not trust doctors that offer consultations in hotels/homes or rooms.
Other than that, he also said that a complete pair of dentures will cost RM100 at government clinics while others will cost less than RM100.
Adding on, he said that if anyone comes across a fake dentist offering fake services, they can report the quacks by lodging a report to the Ministry of Health.
