Recently, a speech in Singapore Parliament by the country’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu Hai Yien drew flak by Singaporeans for her advice to the people that is sure to bring a sense of deja vu to Malaysians. Referring to the food supply crisis faced by the nation, Grace advised Singaporeans to be ‘adaptable’ and to not eat chicken if they can’t find supply for the meat and eat eggs instead.
Parts of her speech in Parliament has since gone viral online, whereby as of the time of writing, it has gotten over 209,700 views in less than 18 hours. Shared by @joshualimkopi on TikTok, the comments section are full of netizens criticising Grace for her ‘solution’ to the food supply crisis.

Grace, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Yushua SMC can be heard saying the below in her speech:
“If you can’t buy this (meat) this week, just don’t eat this form of meat. If you can’t find chicken, let’s go for other forms of meat like eggs,”
Understandably, many Singaporeans took exception to Grace’s speech, with many questioning why the Minister didn’t give alternative solutions instead of just asking the people to look for alternative meats. Furthermore, they are also those that question why the Republic is paying its ministers so much for making this ‘kind of speech’.
Malaysians can also be seen flooding the comments section to draw parallels with what has been happening in our country. One commenter asked whether Grace is from the “same batch as Malaysia ministers” while another asserted that what she is saying is similar to the statements of “Malaysia minister” and sarcastically asked whether “they have WhatsApp group”.
Besides that, there are also those that made fun of the Singapore Minister referring to eggs as meat. One commenter said that he is speechless to hear such a statement from a minister and another jokingly commented that this is the reason a stall charged her with the price of meat for steam eggs recently.
