Despite everything bad that goes on in the world, glimpses of true humanity can often be seen during times of need.
Recently, a CCTV footage of an attempted mugging in KL went viral after a number of motorists wasted no time helping the victim and stopping the muggers in their tracks.
A woman can be seen walking by herself on Sunday, August 21, at around 8:22 p.m. in the CCTV footage that is supposedly of the street directly in front of Wisma FGV in Chow Kit, KL.
As she was walking, two men on a motorcycle suddenly stopped next to her on the main road. One of those men got off the bike and started to grab and pull away the woman’s belongings.
As the snatch thief tried to get on the motorcycle which his partner was riding on, the woman doesn’t give up fighting and attempts to take back her belongings from the mugger.
Whilst all this was going on, a Grab food rider then crashes his motorcycle into the mugger’s bike in an attempt to stop their getaway.
As the Grab rider gets off his bike, a number of other road users could also be seen stopping their cars in the middle of the road to help the woman.
The 2 muggers were then seen being confronted by the group of motorists.
Muggers caught in the act
In pictures shared on Twitter, the faces of the two muggers were shown as police officers reprimanded them.
Meanwhile, the motorcycle they were on was also caught on camera.
The victim was also pictured and it appears to be a foreign woman who had her backpack, which was the item that the muggers were attempting to take from her.
Praised for their quick actions
The CCTV footage has gone viral on social media and netizens were quick to praise the motorists, especially the abang Grab for not hesitating to help the woman.
“Real hero! Just crashed into them. Grab should consider repairing the motorcycle of the hero because he helped to increase the reputation of Grab riders. Respect to the other heroes who came to assist the hero too.”
A number of users tagged Grab’s official account and asked them to reward the abang Grab for willingly crashing his own bike into the muggers’ bike.
“E-hailing can be used to prevent crime, this is the best example… well done everyone,” commented another user.
Meanwhile, the clip has caught the attention of Grab, who are now looking for the Grab rider’s plate number to get in touch with him.
