With so much negativity circulating around the Internet often, acts of kindness usually tend to be overshadowed by it. However, one heartwarming post on Facebook that occurred in Singapore has grabbed the attention of netizens.
On 14 September, Dini Hashim shared a touching story on Facebook of a bus driver helping his passengers to get on the public bus during heavy rain. She explained on her post that she and her friends took the SMRT double-decker bus from Harbour Front Interchange to the Woodlands Interchange.
While seated at the upper deck, Dini and her friends noticed an umbrella that was held up high so that passengers wouldn’t get wet when boarding the bus. Soon after, they became aware that this deed happened every time the bus stopped to pick up passengers.
They realised that the bus captain was the man holding the umbrella to let people board. At every stop, the bus driver left his seat and took his umbrella out and covered his passengers from getting wet.

She then noticed at one of the stops the distance between the bus and the bus stop was a bit far but the bus captain still left with his umbrella to help each passenger board.
She also expressed that in all her years of using the public bus service, she has never encountered such a “thoughtful act”.
She stated in her Facebook post that they shared a conversation with the bus captain when they’ve reached their destination. He had said that he has been doing this for years.
“A win-win situation, the passengers don’t get wet, and so is the bus”
Many netizens felt like acts of kindness like this should definitely be highlighted and praised. The bus captain certainly is living proof that humanity exists.
