Ask any Malaysian what’s their go-to local comfort food when it’s past midnight (heck, anytime of the day for that matter) and chances are, many of them will say “Ramly burger”. It’s delicious, cheap and so accessible especially in the Klang Valley as you can easily find a stall along any major streets where there’s a convenience store nearby.
You can usually spot them outside a 7-Eleven or KK Mart outlet!
That said, despite its humble background, our favourite Ramly burger is definitely gaining traction in other parts of the world such as in the United States. In fact, earlier this month on 7 May, popular YouTube channel HiHo Kids – which usually features kids trying a specific cuisine or food from all over the world – rolled out a new video and this time, they tried burgers from various countries.
The first burger they tried? Malaysia’s famous and much-loved Ramly burger.
While the ones we get over here are usually sloppier and juicier thanks to all the oil and sauces (it’s what makes them so sinfully good!), the ones served in the video looked slightly more ‘atas’. That said, the kids were excited and somewhat confused when they saw the foreign way of wrapping the burger patty inside the fried egg.
So… what did these kids think of our favourite late-night snack?
Here’s what a few of them said:
“Where is the meat?” questioned one boy as he lifted the top bun off.
“Ew, (but) it actually kinda looks good,” said another kid.

Besides Malaysia’s Ramly burger, the kids also tried Vada Pav from India, an Aussie burger called “The Lot”, and Japan’s Yakiniku rice burger, among others.
