Losing a child is perhaps the most painful thing for a parent to have to endure, especially when it happens when a child is young. One such tragic incident happened when Jang Ji-sung lost her seven-year-old daughter to an incurable disease, an experience that no mother should have to go through.

But in a documentary titled ‘I Met You’, the grieving mother was given a chance to “reunite” with her late-daughter, all through the wonders of technology, as LAD Bible reports. While many of us have heard of Virtual Reality (VR) being created with gaming in mind, its abilities have since transcended far beyond mere entertainment alone.

Developed for over eight months by a specialty production team, a virtual environment was created from where Ji-sung could be brought together with her late-daughter one more time with a character modeled after the young child, down to the most minute detail. Aired on Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, a clip of the pivotal moment when Ji-sung straps on the VR gloves and goggles to interact with the virtual world has since caught the world by storm.

In a 44-second long excerpt that was uploaded onto YouTube, Ji-song can be seen wearing VR goggles and gloves that will help her to interact with the virtual environment, as she wanders around a green-screen room.

We then see her ‘daughter’ emerge from behind a stack of wood, running up to Ji-song excitedly, as the video cuts to what she can see through her VR goggles.

“Where have you been, Mum? Did you think about me?” she asks.

“I do all the time.”, Ji-song responds.

As the video progresses, we see how Ji-song gradually becomes ever more emotional as she touches and talks to her late-daughter, walking with her around a ‘park’ that was designed to resemble a real-life park that she would use to visit with her daughter before she passed away. Her family members, who watched on close-by, appear to be tearing up too.

According to Ji-song, she agreed to join the program as she wanted to offer comfort to ‘someone who has lost a child like me, or who has lost a brother or parent’.

What do you guys think of this development in technology? Whatever the case may be, we definitely need a few tissues after that whole video.
