Tourism Malaysia recently shared the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM) montage, which has received criticism for featuring places of worship from other religions but leaving out mosques.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has since clarified that mosque architecture will be included in a more detailed promotional video, which is in its final stages and set to be released soon.

“This isn’t the first time”

In a Facebook post, Machang Member of Parliament, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, claimed this isn’t the first time the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister has been insensitive to national culture when it comes to tourism.

The Supreme Council Member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) called the insensitivity and excuses given by King Sing a sin and an unacceptable disturbance.

“This isn’t the first time he’s pretending to have made a mistake or that things were incomplete. This is a sin, an unacceptable disturbance. What’s even crazier is that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself launched the montage and watched it. He must have seen it, right? His own minister. This is a Madani government, just in name.”

“Anwar should remove this minister from the Cabinet”

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal also accused the DAP ministers and King Sing of not understanding what Madani really means.

He pointed out that the core culture that needs to be highlighted should always be included in any promotion from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, even questioning how the montage was approved without putting Islamic and Malay symbolism in a prominent position.

“Now they’re making excuses that it’s incomplete or needs improvement. This isn’t the first time, not the second time, but multiple times we’ve pointed this out. And Anwar, you should remove this minister from your Cabinet. But if you keep him, that’s fine too. It’ll be easier for us to topple you in the 16th General Election (PRU16).”
