Two Hong Kong residents, one of which runs a YouTube channel have been arrested by the local police for shooting water guns at police officers during an event celebrating the Thai new year in Kowloon City.
The YouTuber recently posted the video of the incident on his channel, showing how he squirted water at the police officers manning the festival as well as at several other people last Sunday (9 April 2023).
As reported by the BBC, the festival was held in conjunction with the Thai new year or Songkran, where it is traditional for Thais to splash water using buckets and water guns to drive away bad luck. Hong Kong’s Kowloon City district is well-known for having a sizeable Thai population living there.
However, the Hong Kong police claimed that the two men used the festival as a cover to target law enforcers. Besides that, the two men also squirted water at TVB reporters, which many consider as pro-government.
