In most snatch theft cases, the victims would be left helpless after their valuables are taken away but not in this case, because the victim actually held on to the thief for quite a distance! This incident happened in Taman Asean, Melaka on 2 February 2019.

In a 90-second video that went viral online, the victim who appeared to be a middle-aged man was standing by the road when the culprit snatched his gold necklace that had a gold ring on it as well. Thanks to his quick thinking, he managed to hook the thief’s neck with his right arm which resulted in the victim getting dragged along as the motorcycle sped away.

This nerve-wracking situation persisted for about 500 metres before the culprit pulled over at a bus stop. Both parties engaged in a fight before the victim was pushed to the ground by the snatch thief. Here’s the video.

Melaka Tengah district police chief confirmed the authorities have received a report over this incident. According to the police, as reported by Oriental Daily, the 49-year-old victim was drinking coconut water with his son at that time and their backs were facing the main road when the crime took place.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the culprits consist of four men on two motorcycles while the ring plus necklace was estimated to be worth about RM11,000. The victim was lightly injured after falling off the motorcycle as the culprits successfully escaped. This case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.

We’re glad that the victim didn’t suffer from severe injuries as his action of hanging on to the snatch thief was incredibly dangerous. Hopefully, the criminals can be apprehended soon.
