Well, this doesn’t seem right!

Punishing a child when they do something wrong can teach them how to make good decisions next time but do make sure that it is an appropriate punishment.

Recently, Stomp reported that a man was caught on camera slapping and forcing his young child to kneel in a public place while another lady who was with them watched helplessly. The incident took place at a carpark in IKEA Tampines, Singapore on a Monday (5 November 2018) night.

The person who witnessed and recorded the shocking incident told Stomp that the whole ordeal took place at around 9pm. The source was quoted by Stomp as saying,

“The man was seen shouting and slapping a girl, believed to be his daughter, and asking her to kneel down.”

The source, who doesn’t wish to be named, said that he isn’t sure why the father was so angry at the poor child. The girl looked like she was about five or six years old.

“I do not know what the man was upset about, but he was saying things like, ‘I love you, but you cannot say these kind[s] of things to me’ and ‘It’s no longer your mum’s place, it is my place’.”

The source added that it was not confirmed if the lady who was there during the incident is the mother of the girl. However, it looked like she was terrified of standing up to the enraged father as she did not do anything to stop him from slapping his daughter.

Nevertheless, the source ceased recording after he suspected that the father had noticed that he was being recorded. He said that there were a few onlookers and most of them were just walking towards their vehicle.

Eventually, the man left the place he noticed more people had started to gather at the scene.

Following that, the person who recorded the video reckoned that a parent shouldn’t embarrass a child as the father did in this story. I concur!

“He shouldn’t embarrass his daughter in public places like this and scare other families with young children. His voice could be heard from the escalator towards the carpark,” he said.

After the incident went viral, a concerned netizen said that he reported it to the police and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) in Singapore. Stomp reported that both the police and MSF are investigating the incident while IKEA has confirmed that it happened in one of their carparks.

Well, we don’t know why the father decided to punish the young girl as such but we hope that no parents will do the same to their child because this kind of public embarrassment can harm them emotionally and mentally.

What are your thoughts about the father’s actions? Let us know in the comments!
