Generally found in wetlands and coastal areas, Malaysia houses four out of 13 otter species. Taking place near Pantai Puteri Melaka, this family of otters greeted local fishermen and visitors for a spot of lunch.
Caught on camera, these adorable mammals can be seen asking people for food on the beach while fishermen are reeling in their catch.
In the video, the otters can be seen happily swimming along the beach’s edge, occasionally moving back and forth to the fishermen for food.
In the comments section, netizens commented on how cute they were and if there were any who would offer them as pets.
Unfortunately, due to the decline in the otter population, experts have advised the public not to keep them as pets, no matter how cute they are.
Otters are a protected species under Malaysian law, and it is illegal to capture, kill, trade or keep them as pets without a permit.
For now, let’s enjoy them in their natural habitat and ensure that otters and creatures like them still have a place to call home.
