There have been talks about raising the minimum wage from RM1,200 to RM1,500 by the end of the year. However, being paid a minimum wage of RM1,200 for some jobs is considered too little.
Recently, UTAR Confessions 2022/2023 shared an anonymous confession by someone who claimed to be working in a hotpot restaurant with a monthly pay of RM1,200. What makes the person unhappy is his job scope, as well as the boss who he thinks, is not understanding.
The person does not only complain about needing to clean the washroom but also his working hours which is from 12pm till 12am. He also said that his boss cannot understand why people are constantly complaining about the job.
“My boss said people are picky nowadays but hello! You’re only paying us RM1,200 for everything.”
This is a joke
The post has gained the attention of the netizens who share similar thoughts and agree that workers in the hotpot restaurant is being underpaid.
Boss: 6 days of work per week. 12 hours of work per day. We pay RM1,200. Do you accept?
Worker: What if I work without receiving the pay?
Boss: You’re joking, right?
Worker: You started the joke first.
End of conversation.
12 hours of work and cleaning the washroom? I won’t even do it for RM2,200.
In the meantime, a netizen thinks that the person should bring the matter further to the labour department.
“The minimum wage of a foreign worker is not even this low. They’re paid more than you.”
“On average, you’re worth RM3.33 an hour.”
The work in the food and beverage field is definitely not easy as they have to work on public holidays and weekends while being away from their loved ones. Do you think the workers in the hotpot restaurant are underpaid?
