Earlier reports stated that a fight broke out in front of a supermarket in Tawau, Sabah, between two men who were allegedly intoxicated, according to Berita Harian.

A video of the incident later went viral, showing one of the men lying on the ground in a weakened state with his intestines exposed after being stabbed by the other, surrounded by shocked members of the public.

“This case is truly horrifying”

Following the incident, a doctor took to Facebook to share important advice on what to do (and what not to do) if a similar situation occurs again.

“A video of a local man being stabbed until his intestines were exposed went viral. This case is truly horrifying, and it’s important to know what actions should be taken in such situations,” he wrote.

What to do:

1. Before approaching the victim, make sure the attacker is no longer present or has been subdued to ensure your safety.

2.  Immediately call an ambulance and the police (999) and provide the exact location, the victim’s condition, and any other important details.

3. Use a clean, damp cloth to cover the intestines to prevent infection (DO NOT attempt to push them back into the abdomen).

4. Try to control the bleeding by stopping the bleeding around the wound by applying pressure to the area surrounding it (not directly on the intestines).

5. Calm the victim by speaking calmly and prevent the victim from moving too much to reduce the risk of further internal injury.

6. If the victim becomes unconscious, ensure their airway is clear and check if they’re still breathing. If they aren’t breathing, perform CPR.

What not to do:

1. Do not attempt to remove any weapon lodged in the body, as it could lead to more severe bleeding.

2. Do not leave the victim alone since an individual’s presence could provide emotional and physical support.

3. Do not take advantage of the situation by stealing the victim’s belongings or spreading speculation. Such actions are unethical and may interfere with the investigation.

The suspect didn’t have valid identification

The incident, which took place around 3:43 PM, reportedly began after a fight broke out between two labourers who knew each other. A verbal argument escalated into violence when one of them stabbed the other with a sharp weapon.

Investigations revealed that the 37-year-old suspect did not possess valid identification documents to be in the country.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a weapon, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having valid documents and the suspect is currently being held under Section 51(5)(b) of the same act for further investigation.
