A restaurant in Langkawi recently found itself in the spotlight after a customer complained about how they had apparently charged RM5 for a glass of plain water.

Following the backlash it received, the restaurant recently took to the ‘LANGKAWI HARI INI (LHI)’ Facebook group to explain what happened.

In a post, Restaurant Afish shared the receipt of the incident and said it was a mistake one of its staff members had made.

“We would like to apologise to the customer because our staff made a mistake when calculating the bill. We hope to get in touch with the customer so we can refund the extra charge.”

They explained that the staff member had incorrectly charged for a cup of Nescafe and had forgotten to change the pricing to reflect what was ordered.

Along with the post, they also attached numerous receipts from other customers to show that they do, in fact, only charge RM1 for plain water.

“The incident happened during breakfast, and as it is something we have just started, we have a lot of new staff. We sincerely apologise for the mistake as the system is still something new for the staff, which explains the mistake,” they shared.

The restaurant stated that they’ve been operating since 2015, and the charge for plain water has always been RM1.

“We thank you for your understanding and apologise again for our mistake. Thank you to everyone who has given feedback, we hope to improve our service.”
