Weightlifting is a hobby for some and a passion for others, but how far can one go when pushing the limits? Well, like every other extreme sport, there is always a limit and crossing that line could end you in unfortunate circumstances.

A Russian powerlifter fractured both his knees and tore his quadriceps muscles after he tried to squat lift 400kg.

According to Yahoo News, Alexander Sedykh was at the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) European Championships where he was the defending champion.

A video of the horrific incident shows Sedykh attempting to lift the 400kg weight when his knees gave way and he tumbled to the ground crying out in anguish.

Officials and medics rushed him to the hospital where he underwent a six-hour long surgery on his legs. He suffered fractures to both knees and required his quadriceps muscles to be reattached.

After he recovers from the surgery, Sedykh says he has to learn how to walk again.

Knees

“The main thing is that I must lie motionless in bed for two months. Then I’ll be taught how to walk again. It’ll take time to recuperate,” he said.

“I’ve had my quadriceps re-sewn and my knees put back together.”

Sedykh, however, did not reveal if he would continue his weightlifting career.

That looks horrifying! Weightlifters and powerlifters out there, don’t try to lift beyond what you can handle. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
