Due to having borrowed RM150 and failing to repay the loan, a debtor was allegedly forced to burn down someone’s home to save themselves and their family from death threats.
This action did not stop at just one house, as it continued as long as the loan amount, which increased to tens of thousands every day, was not fully paid off.
According to a report by Kosmo!, the Head of the Ah Long Combat Unit from the Centre for Quranic Studies and Fardu Ain Darul Muttaqim (DM), Adam Mustapa, shared that this modus operandi was uncovered by his unit when the debtor failed to repay their loans.

“When these victims become too scared, they are willing to accept the offers of the group that gave them the loan, to burn down houses, splash paint and (participate in) other crimes against other victims who also failed to repay their loans,”
“If they are willing to do it, their debt would be written off little by little, and they would even receive rewards,” he said.
An RM150 loan becomes an RM70,000 debt
Adam Mustapa added that the number of loan shark victims is increasing, with his party managing to resolve 2,000 cases since 2022.
“So far, the highest loan amount in our record is RM70,000, which originally started with (a loan of) only RM150,” he added.
