Mouth watering! This is not your fancy dream job, but their income sure is.
The right approach
Shared on Free Malaysia Today was an interview with a viral fried chicken street vendor in Keramat who earns RM15,000 per month.
According to Mat Tohid Abdul Kadir, 38, and his wife Nur Razlin Ramli, 33, any business should consider items that are affordable for the masses to buy.
It was a fact that he had established after failing in his previous business of selling rotisserie chicken.
“There is demand for rotisserie chicken, but people will only eat those in small amounts, and nowadays people are just not keen on spending RM10 for a food item.”
“It’s not like the old days, our economy is unstable. Back then we had a lot of wage earners but now sellers are more than consumers,” he continued.

Learning from the experience, Tohid started to think of a different business that is a lot more relevant to the unstable economy.
“No one will have any problem with taking out only RM1 out of their wallet, especially when it comes to food. Be it 4 or 5 pieces, it can still be considered as cheap and affordable.”
It’s all about taking risks
Since the start of the business in 2017, Tohid admitted that there were a lot of challenges that they had to go through to ensure their survival up until now.
“There are three similar businesses in this area, but praises God, customers remained loyal to us.”
As described in the interview, they can sell up to 70 to 80 whole chickens every day. There was once that they could sell 100 whole chickens in a day, which resulted in them gaining RM15,000 at that time.
However, it depends on the season, and they don’t get that kind of profit all the time.
“You would think that RM15,000 is a big number, but after you deduct the operating costs along with the unstable price of chicken every day, we could only manage a net profit of RM500 to RM700 per day, and even that is fickle.”
People can simply walk over to their stall and choose whichever part of the chicken that they want on their own. People are willing to line up for this simple but effective concept.
Tohid recently managed to open up another one of his viral fried chicken stalls in Danau Kota thanks to his hard work and strategy.
Youth should stop being picky with their jobs
Considering that our nation’s main problem at the moment is a massive amount of jobless people, Tohid acknowledges that the community, especially young people, shouldn’t be too particular in choosing a job and must find a good way to gain a proper source of income.
“Don’t downgrade the job of a street vendor, if that’s the only thing that you can do, then proceed.”
“That would be better than not having any money in your savings,” he continued.
The viral chicken business opens every Monday till Friday starting from 11am.
Aside from their famous RM1 fried chicken, the stall sells other fried chicken products such as cheesy chicken and Spicy Korean Chicken, which are sold for up to RM6.
During weekends, they focus on their kids since Tohid used to work as a lorry driver and the previous work ‘stole’ his precious time with them.
Now, to find this stall and stop myself from salivating.
