Despite not being as hectic as GE15, the state election that took place on Saturday (August 12) was still “thrilling”, especially when Malaysians stayed up for the results to find out how many seats each political party could secure.
Many media houses had all hands on deck to keep Malaysians updated, but a local newspaper, Utusan probably won the Internet by their creativity in announcing the winners via their TikTok account, @utusantvofficial and the losers. To those who are not aware, Rina Harun, the former Minister of Women, Community and Family contended in Batu 3, Shah Alam but lost to Pakatan Harapan’s Danial Al-Rashid, who secured 29,064 votes.
Rina herself got 25,682 votes while MUDA’s Syaidiyah Izzati managed to lock in 1,908 votes.
Now, here’s what is unique about Utusan’s announcement. If you browse through their recent announcement on TikTok, Utusan announced most of the winners with respective music but Rina’s post was possibly the most outstanding one. Instead of announcing Danial as the winner, Utusan announced Rina as the loser with familiar music in the background.
Doraemon. And we’re sure most of you can connect the dots.
In case you missed it, Rina Harun has been associated with Doraemon all the way back in 2020, particularly during the MCO. At that time, Rina, who was the Women’s minister released a poster to “educate” women on how to communicate with their other half.
Here’s what Rina suggested they do.
“Use humorous words and imitate the voice of Doraemon!”
Not long after the poster went viral for the wrong reasons, the Ministry of Women issued an apology for the matter.
“The song plays a role.”
“Oh no, why Doraemon’s theme song?”
“That’s because YB Rina used to advise the woman to talk to their husbands with a Doraemon tone. This was back in 2020 and it went viral.”
“I’ve been watching your choice of songs, admin.”
“Admin, you’re not even trying to hide anymore. This is straight-up throwing shades at Rina.”
“Admin is good in throwing shades.”
You can watch, or we mean listen to the clip below.
