According to the Ministry of National Unity, family reunion dinners during the Chinese New Year is now allowed.
In a statement today (7 Feb 2021), the ministry said that family members living within a 10km radius can gather for CNY reunion dinner, without crossing districts or states.
Moreover, it would only be limited to 15 family members. The statement also added that this revised standard operation procedure (SOP) was a decision after the National Security Council’s technical meeting chaired by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
Religious activities within houses of worship on 11, 12 and 19 February are also now allowed, subject to strict compliance of the SOP, according to the ministry.
Previously, it was announced that only family members living under the same roof are allowed to have reunion dinner together on CNY eve during the movement control order (MCO).
To those who are celebrating CNY, remember to strictly adhere to the government’s latest SOPs. You and your family’s health and safety should be your utmost priority!
