David Dao, the passenger forced off a United Airlines flight has reportedly been represented by a lawyer who is widely known as ”the every-man’s lawyer”.
According to NextShark, Thomas Demetrio, also known as ‘Tom’, is widely known in court by involving himself in major lawsuits and winning much of them, specifically personal injury cases. He has represented multiple NFL and NHL players and also the well known Dave Duerson’s case which led to a $1 Billion settlement. All that moolahhh!
Thomas Demetrio also won a 2002 scaffolding accident case that led to a $75 million compensation which had him listed as one of the top 100 plaintiff attorney.
Thomas Demetrio, with his guns fully loaded, asked in a press conference on Thursday :
“Are we going to continue to just be treated like cattle? Bullied? Rude treatment?
“We all have had enough angst for flying as it is. Don’t treat the people who helped make you be the corporate entity you are like Dr. Dao was treated.”
Bills were filed and evidence were preserved, but as of now, there is no lawsuit yet. Demetrio has a steady track record of taking on airlines. According to NBC, the man represented the widow of a plane crash in 1973. In 1990, he also represented the family of Stevie Ray Vanghan, a musician, who died in a helicopter crash.
Demetrio also represented victims of American Eagle plane crashes, winning $30 million settlements. Besides all of those, he also represented those who lost their family members in the 9/11 attack for free.
According to Judge Thomas Hogan, there is no doubt that Demetrio is ”the everyman’s lawyer” as he ”holds the burden of persuading judges to look into people’s suffering.”
