UiTM has responded to an online claim saying that the 20th series of the Self-Identity and Spirituality Camp, which took place on January 11, forced non-Muslim students to join an Islamic religious event.

They clarified in a statement that the programme is actually part of the Kesatria Negara dan Kesatria Kembara co-curriculum subject, which aims to develop students who are balanced in character, intellect, and spirituality, as reported by Sinar Harian.

Non-Muslim students are given talks on social ethics

A total of 2,447 first-semester students joined the program, including 34 non-Muslims, from the Kesatria Negara 1, Kembara 1, and Pancaragam 1 courses.

According to UiTM, the programme includes elements such as discipline, patriotism, first aid, recreation, and spiritual values for Muslim students, while non-Muslim students get social ethics talks that suit their needs.

“The social ethics talks aim to provide an understanding of ethical values in community life, including at home, in the workplace, and public spaces. After the talk, non-Muslim students enjoyed tea before being allowed to return,” they wrote.

“The main goal is to shape people”

The statement also pointed out that the main goal of the programme is to shape people with good social awareness and strong character values.

It also mentioned that using nearby locations like the mosque and Dewan Muktamar makes things easier to manage, saves time, and helps keep everything running smoothly without interruptions.

UiTM said they take the confusion caused by the communication issues and programme posters seriously.

They also shared that the UiTM Co-Curriculum Center will look into the process of organising future programmes to make them more efficient.

“These changes will include being more careful with how they share information and promotional materials to avoid any misunderstandings,” they added.

“The programme respects everyone’s religious beliefs”

In conclusion, UiTM made it clear that the Self-Identity and Spirituality Camp was held with respect for everyone’s religious and cultural sensitivities.

“UiTM is committed to making sure that co-curriculum activities are inclusive and professional, helping to develop students who are competitive and have strong integrity.”
