Caretaker Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has guaranteed that land transport will be sufficient throughout the 15 General Election (GE15) period and also instructed airlines in the country to increase flight frequencies. These measures were taken so as to ensure that Malaysians can return to their respective hometowns to vote.

As reported by Bernama, Wee said that airlines must increase flight frequencies ahead of GE15 so that air ticket prices can be controlled. Furthermore, he also said that airports’ operating hours should be extended until midnight if necessary to cater for increased flight frequencies as well as make it easier for people to travel.

Wee, who is also the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayer Hitam urged airlines to be fair to all passengers, especially students, most of whom will opt to buy tickets at a cheap price. He asserted,

“The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) needs to increase the monitoring of ticket prices and flight schedules to allow the people to return home to vote. I will ask (MAVCOM) to look at the available facilities and use them as best as possible. As for land transport, I guarantee that everything will be sufficient throughout the period (GE15),”

So, what do you guys think about these measures taken by the Transport Ministry ahead of GE15? Will you be returning to your home town to vote this 19 November? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
