On Tuesday (30 November) KL City FC made history as they beat JDT FC 2-0 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in an unexpected performance during the Malaysia Cup.
As the underdogs, they had managed to bag Malaysia’s oldest football trophy whilst ending a long 32-year drought for the trophy.
With JDT FC being the strong favourites, some supporters had even promised to do the unthinkable if they were to lose. Meanwhile, some supporters took the opportunity to mock Johor’s Crown Prince on social media following JDT’s loss.
A Twitter user posted a tweet that night and tagged the Johor Crown Prince. The tweet was a long laughter in all caps with a few additional words slipped in between.
“Greetings @HRHJohorII. Nothing much, I just wanted to laugh”.
Following the laughter were the words “their own stadium” and “buying all the players” in between.
Unsurprisingly, the Crown Prince who is fairly known for his frequent interactions with the people via social media, replied to the user who mocked his football club.
In his tweet, JDT’s owner, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said that, “Haha… Dear sir, tomorrow morning I am still the Crown Prince of Johor. Still $ (rich).”
“18 trophies in 8 years. Allah has blessed me with 4 wonderful kids and a wonderful wife”
“You can laugh today/temporarily, but I’ll laugh for many years to come. I’m blessed”, he added.
Netizens criticised TMJ for flaunting his wealth and privilege
The tweet from TMJ has garnered almost 7,000 likes and over 3,700 shares. In the comments section, netizens criticised him for allegedly flaunting his wealth and privilege.
One user said,
“Your Honour TMJ. I believe that the user is talking about football only. Nothing regarding your personal and private life.”
Another user said,
“Still $ ??!! When the rakyat talk and troll about football, you talk about privilege. That’s rich…”
