Tired M’sian Driver Dozes Off Behind the Wheels & Dies After Plunging Massive Lorry Into the Sea at Lumut

Yesterday, a man driving a 10-ton lorry died of drowning after he was believed to have dozed off, plunging the vehicle he was operating into the sea at Lumut Maritime Port in Sitiawan, Perak.

The deceased has been identified as 20 year old Aqil Rasydan Razmi.

The Underwater Rescue Team from Pangkor Island assisted in retrieving the lorry that fell at an estimated depth of 11 meters using two cranes after port authorities gave a distress call to Sitiawan Fire and Rescue station at 5:30 am yesterday.

Surrounding vessels at the port had to be moved to conduct the operation.

Aqil’s body was pulled out of the water at 9.45 am and was declared dead on site by by health personnel.

His remains were then taken to the Seri Manjung Hospital for post-mortem examination.

“Initial investigations found that the incident happened while workers workers were unloading stones from the lorry“, said District police chief Assistant Commissioner, Nor Omar Sappi.

“The lorry driver is believed to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to move forward and fall into the sea.”

Nor Omar Sappi also added that police are looking for more information on the incident and urges anyone to contact investigating officer Inspector Lily Suryana Roslaili at 013-6559693.
