The durian craze is very much alive and still going strong.

According to Harian Metro, a durian stall in Kampung Semat Jal in Tumpat, Kelantan is now a famous spot after it gained popularity for selling their durians in an irresistable package – RM10 for as many durians as you can fit in a black plastic bag. Yep, you heard it right.

The owner of the stall is Shahmi Azani Mohd Tanazi (age 26), and he has even introduced a coupon system to avoid overcrowding as the stall receives so many customers a day.

The stock of durians available is so enormous, the fruits are even laid out outside of the stall. Shahmi Azani starts business at 10am and the customers would start to line up as early as 8am.

The supply of durians comes from Pahang, Pulau Pinang, Johor, Kedah dan Negeri Sembilan. He receives about 20 tons of the fruit every day.

“I came up with the concept of filling up plastic bags with durians to give less fortunate people a chance to buy the fruit at an affordable price,” Shahmi Azani said.

This durian stall has another interesting feature. Only six customers at a time will be called by their coupon numbers, and they have to pay RM10 up front before they are given a plastic bag to start filling it up with durians. After the previous six customers are done, then the next six customers will be called for their turn. Talk about being systematic!

The types of durians sold in the stall include D2, D13, D88, ‘durian udang merah’ and ‘musang king’, Sinar Harian reported, those those are not part of Shahmi’s amazing promotion.

The type of durians sold for RM10 a bag are ‘durian kampung’, and the stock sells out in less than an hour! An average of seven to eight durians can fit inside the plastic bags provided.

If you’re planning to visit the stall soon, make sure to be there super early to beat the crowd and get yourself some durians!
