This school in Kedah has brought things to another level by using facial recognition technology to record the students’ attendance!
The principal of SMK Tunku Abdul Aziz, Alor Setar told Harian Metro that they decided to use this facial recognition device as previously, they used thumbprint scanners and they didn’t work for some students and teachers. So, on 27th August, the school installed this machine and now, roughly 100 students and teachers take their attendance using this device.
As of now, the school has about 5 devices (4 thumbprint scanners and 1 facial recognition device) to take the students’ and teachers’ attendance.
The principal said that facial recognition machine really helps with curbing disciplinary problems as they make it compulsory for problematic students to use it to record their attendance. This also makes it easier for teachers to know who the problematic students are.
That machine is also connected to the “Pepatih MySekolah” application where students’ attendance and discipline problems are recorded.
After the implementation of these devices, the principal says that their problem of students leaving early before class ends has been reduced as students who ‘ponteng‘ class can also be easily identified and reported to the discipline teachers using the application.
Wah, this school memang very high-tech. Do you think that this system should be implemented in all schools nationwide? Tell us in the comments!
