This is the perfect way to spend your quarantine, in bread-filled ecstasy!
Now let’s be honest, this pandemic has been going on for way too long and we just desperately want it to end. Unfortunately, with the fluctuating number of cases, we’re still unsure how long we’re going to be stuck indoors. At this point in the pandemic, grabbing our mask before we go out is basically second nature but how would it be if your mask could substitute as a snack?
Three bread-loving university students from Fukuoka and Okinawa said they dreamed of being able to smell melon bread all the time. Thus, they decided to make a Mask Bread made entirely of Melon Pan Bread!
According to SoraNews24, the students created this mask in an experimental lab run by head massage specialists Goku no Kimochi The Labo, which has four salons around Japan and one in New York.
The mask dubbed as the “world’s first” edible mask is not only for aesthetic purposes but also has actually been properly tested for product performance by Unitika Garmentec Research Institute, a third-party testing institute for masks. From the test, they claimed that the melon pan mask provides the same level of protection OR a level that is even better than the commercially available masks.
To demonstrate its effectiveness, a “splash prevention performance visualisation test” was conducted and the results can be seen below:

For now, however, the company aims to release the product lightheartedly, as “the happiest mask in the world to fulfil the dreams of bread lovers”. The edible masks that can be snacked from the inside will be sold in Japan online for 1,800 yen (RM67.66).
We wish this was available in Malaysia! Maybe we can try doing our own version of this by putting a string across a Roti Benggalis?
