From Aether Cafe to Thursdvys, TTDI is a famous spot for cafe hopping. But among all these fancy looking places, there’s a spot you might not know even existed. Nestled above a mamak, Safehouse KL is not your common cafe but a creative hub.
Around a year ago, five young individuals, Alisya F, Farhan Fauzi, Hirendran Siva, Naufal Anwa and Sheldon Roy started Safehouse, a progressive and creative space.
“We want to offer a fun and supportive community for like-minded individuals,” said Safehouse. “We aim to provide facilities and an environment that can be easily modified to match every event”.
WHY VISIT SAFEHOUSE?
Safehouse welcomes young creatives to gather and get familiarised with the creative scene of KL through their events. On normal days, Safehouse has a chill environment where people can come to relax and enjoy their in-house convenience store (@kuihzih) that features local F&B products.
Some of the popular events they have hosted include:
Gerak Gerai – a flea market curated by CTRLLOOKBOOK that includes a tattoo pop-up and DJ music.
Purple Disc – a late-night pop party featuring festival artists
12 Gifts for Christmas – a two-weekend Christmas pop-up featuring different brands each day
Safehouse has also worked with a long list of local artists. To name a few:
Gard Wuzgut
NYK
Shelhiel
Reddi Rocket
Mazdabeh666
Ghostboy Club
With the multiple MCOs that are happening, Safehouse moved their operations online where they live-streamed performances and hosted a few workshops, discussions, and podcasts. Here are some of the online events they held:
Music Production Workshop
How to Create Your Own Instagram Filter
Their podcast @s2u.pod uploads regularly with the episodes mostly centred around Malaysian creatives and the industry.
Interested? Why don’t you check out Safehouse yourself in their upcoming event on 16 January where they will be holding an art workshop led by @cr.eggg!
