Anyone who grew up in the 90s is sure to remember the angst-ridden tunes of American musician, Alanis Morissette. Her third album ‘Jagged Little Pill‘ received widespread success and critical acclaim, even winning five Grammys!
Now, 90s kids can relive their nostalgia because this album is now being adapted into a Broadway musical, what’s more, it’s being developed by a Malaysian producer! Walao!
According to the New York Times, Malaysian Arvind Ethan David along with Vivek J. Tiwary and Eva Price are the lead producers of this upcoming Broadway musical, which is expected to be capitalised for up to USD$14 million (approx RM57.3 million). They have reportedly been working on this production for almost nine years.

The lead producers also released a joint statement addressing this upcoming musical, according to Deadline. An excerpt from their statement reads,
“Jagged Little Pill was the soundtrack to our youth, so it’s a dream come true to bring this beautiful, galvanising story to the Broadway stage. Twenty-four years ago, Alanis Morissette struck a deep emotional chord across the world, encouraging everyone to wake up to the difficult truths in our lives, be heard, and be seen.”
Arvind Ethan David has also produced the Netflix and BBC America series, ‘Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency‘ starring Elijah Wood, adapted from the novel series written by Douglas Adams of ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy‘ fame.

David even founded his own production company based in London called Slingshot Productions and is also the current Executive Director of Ideate Media, a production financing company based in both Kuala Lumpur and Los Angeles, in the United States.
With his latest project, ‘Jagged Little Pill‘ coming to the Broadway stage very soon, this musical is set to tackle pressing issues like opiate addiction, sexual assault, and gender identity.
Well, with a Malaysian helming such a major production, maybe we can get to see ‘Jagged Little Pill’ coming to our shores sometime in the future!
