This girl proves that people of any age can lend a helping hand in the battle against Covid-19 and it creates a huge impact.
Nur Afia Qistina Zamzuri at the young age of nine has touched the hearts of many as she is doing her part in helping our dedicated frontliners.
At just the age of 9-years-old, Afia from Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan has mastered sewing skills and she is now sewing protective clothing that is a part of personal protective equipment (PPE) for our frontliners in the hospital.
According to Berita Awani, Afia has learnt how to sew since she was 5-years-old from her mother, Hasna Hud who is also a seamstress. Initially it was Hasna who expressed her desire to help the medical team in Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah (HTAN) when she had heard that they are running low on PPE.
“When I spoke to Afia about wanting to stitch PPEs for the medical team, Afia was also excited and she wanted to help,” said Hasna.
Her mother further explained that all the PPEs that they’ve sewed so far was the handiwork of Afia and she, the mom, only helped to do the finishing touches on the neck area of the gear.
“When she turned seven, I started giving her small pieces of materials because I saw her interest. Then, she started sewing pillow cases and sold it to the people in the neighbourhood,’ said Hasna via Berita Awani.
It takes Afia around one hour to finish one pair of PPE. To date, Afia had successfully completed 100 pairs of PPEs and they have sent it over to HTAN.
Even though Afia is not able to fully grasp what the Covid-19 pandemic is about, her mother had explained in a simpler way so that the 9-year-old could have an understanding regarding the dangers of the virus.
Afia’s uncle is also part of the frontliners as he works in the military and her mum explained that it helped Afia understand the significance of frontliners even more.
The kind gesture of this little girl shows that anyone irregardless of their background can do their part in this fight against the pandemic. Her parents’ encouragement towards their daughter is also highly respectable because they are teaching her to give back to the society. It’s a great value to instill in kids while they are growing up.
We can also help out by practicing social distancing and staying at home. By working together, hopefully we can bring this pandemic to an end.
