The Ministry of Health (KKM) has confirmed that many children rescued from GISBH’s welfare houses are facing mental health issues believed to be the result of trauma.
Its Deputy Minister, Lukanisman Awang Sauni said KKM is currently providing the necessary treatment assistance, including a mental health support system for the rescued children.
“Those children need a mental health support system because they are separated from their families. Some don’t even know what happened to them,” he told reporters yesterday (September 25).
This is the time when the psychologists come into play, and Lukanisman said KKM will allow the experts to help the children in any way necessary. The detailed information about the treatment, however, is still being finalised.
“We will provide that information in detail later because as of now, the rescue operation for GISBH children is still happening nationwide.”
A total of 13 psychologists from the National Mental Health Center of Excellence (NCEMH) and Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) were provided by KKM to treat children rescued through Op Global – the name of the raids conducted by PDRM.
The group of psychologists is a special task force that conducts mental health screenings for the children involved who are now temporarily housed at PULAPOL Kuala Lumpur.
During the beginning of the raids, PDRM rescued over 400 children and teenagers who were victims of sodomy at the welfare houses, where they were also taught to perform similar acts on others.
At the time of writing (September 26), many of GISBH’s top leaders, including its CEO, have been arrested by the police and the operation to locate other followers is still ongoing.
We hope the traumatised children will receive the treatments they deserve and we pray for their recovery.
