A young man from Sempalit, Pahang, recently endured a terrifying ordeal after what was meant to be a routine job interview in Kuala Lumpur allegedly turned into a case of abduction and abuse.
According to a viral Facebook post by Uncle Kentang, the victim had travelled to the capital to attend an interview for a computer operator position. However, upon arriving at a bus terminal, he was reportedly lured to a house, where he was unlawfully detained.

RM15,000 ransom, or work as a slave in Cambodia
Based on information shared by Uncle Kentang, the man is 28 years old. His captors reportedly forced him to provide the contact number of his brother in Sempalit before attempting to extort RM15,000 from his family in exchange for his release. The victim also claimed that he was pressured multiple times to accept work in Cambodia, raising suspicions of a possible human trafficking attempt.
During his captivity, the young man said he was severely beaten and suffered burns to both hands after being scalded with hot water. Despite his injuries, he eventually managed to escape and sought help from a nearby Malay family, who assisted him and ensured he received medical treatment at a hospital.
Authorities moved swiftly following the report. Based on the victim’s account, police have arrested 12 suspects believed to be involved in the case. They have also contacted the victim’s brother to assist in investigations, Uncle Kentang said in his post.

Sources indicated that the case may be linked to a prior debt dispute, although investigations are ongoing. Police are expected to charge those involved with offences including causing grievous harm and unlawful confinement.
A friend introduced the “job.”
The victim’s elder brother, who declined to be named, said his younger sibling had been introduced to the job opportunity by a friend and travelled alone to Kuala Lumpur for the interview last Thursday (March 19).
He recounted that while his brother was waiting for the friend to pick him up at a bus stop in the KLCC area, a group of individuals abducted him in a car and took him to an unknown house, where he was held captive.
“At the time, I insisted that the other party come out and receive the cash in person, but they refused. The next day, they stopped calling,” the elder brother said as quoted by China Press.
“Then, at about 6 AM on Saturday (28 March), my cousin suddenly received a call from my younger brother saying that he had successfully escaped and was injured and hospitalised,” he added.
The incident serves as a stark reminder for job seekers to remain vigilant. Experts advise informing trusted individuals of interview details, avoiding unfamiliar locations alone, and verifying the legitimacy of potential employers before attending any job appointments.
