Frozen yoghurt franchise llaollao has been one of the most popular dessert outlets throughout the country since coming to Malaysia. A neat snack for those who are walking around a mall, need a pick-me-up for their day, or simply to spoil themselves, there’s no denying how loved the brand is to many.
However, there has been a long-standing question that customers and fans alike don’t have the answer to: How does one pronounce the brand’s name? While the topic has plagued many individuals in the past, the answer has finally come our way!
Filipino content creator and lifestyle influencer SiKikay recently attended the opening of a llaollao branch in SM City CEBU Shopping Mall, where the brand opened its 38th outlet in the Philippines.
Sharing the moment on her TikTok account @sikikaystory, representatives present during the opening of the branch gave a little background into the history of the brand.
“We also want to clear up the question, how do you pronounce the brand “llaollao”? Everyone’s been debating about it. Because the brand is from Spain, double L’s are actually said as a “Y”. So it is pronounced as “Yao Yao”, not “Lao Lao” and not “Ilao Ilao”,” said the representative.
Finally bringing clarity on the matter, Spanish-speaking individuals also affirmed the statement by the llaollao representative, saying that it is indeed how the brand name should be pronounced.
On the other hand, many Malaysians took to the comments section to express their relief over having pronounced the brand name correctly before this, while some funnily mentioned how they’ve been mispronouncing the store’s name until now.
“Thank goodness I’ve been pronouncing it correctly this whole time,” wrote one user.
