During the MCO, about 800 people of the homeless community have been rescued from the streets and put into temporary shelters. They were given three meals per day and were provided with a mattress, blanket and some other essential supplies.
Starting from yesterday (8th May) till 12th May, the homeless in the temporary shelters can start going to job interviews! This initiative was started by the Ministry of Federal territories along with a few government organisations and also NGOs.
If a homeless candidate aces their interview then they will be able to earn RM1,400 a month as a factory production operator. Other than that, they can also apply to work as a general worker in DBKL, if successful, they’ll be able to earn about RM1,200 a month.
As the MCO is still ongoing, the successful candidates will be moved to dorms provided by their future company and also DBKL. According to Berita Harian and Harian Metro, the minister of Federal Territories, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has said,
“I feel so thankful that they are trying to turn over a new leaf.”
In a previous press conference by the minister on 10th April, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has said that there will be 500 to 700 positions to be filled.
This is definitely a very good effort by the Federal Territories ministry! Since there are about 2000 homeless people in KL, we really do hope that the rest of them will try to start anew and will be given the opportunities to do so.
