Following the backlash that ensued over the ‘compactness’ of the SPM 2021 examination, the Education Ministry has taken into consideration the complaints of students and parents all across the nation and have announced that it will be revising a new examination timetable.
According to a Facebook post by Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin, his ministry had received a lot of feedback from parents and SPM 2021 candidates regarding the 2021 SPM schedule.
“We take into account all views expressed and I have had a discussion with the Examination Board and the ministry’s senior management to look into all viewpoints and statements made and take the necessary action to analyse each view,” he said.
“God willing, we at the MOE will issue a new schedule regarding SPM 2021 in the near future. Thank you.”
The video that was also shared in the ministry’s official Facebook account received positive comments from netizens who expressed thanks and gratitude.
The ‘packed’ examination schedule drew a lot of backlash for its apparent lack of empathy towards students and their mental wellbeing. It included exams on core subjects happening almost one day after another whilst some exams were even being held on a Sunday.
This drew criticism from former Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik. It even resulted in the creation of an online petition calling for the Ministry to revise the timetable. The petition currently has close to 22,000 signatures.
