Our neighbours to the north, Thailand showed us that it is indeed possible to contain the Covid-19 pandemic down to zero new cases per day!
For the second time in 7 days, Thailand has successfully curbed the spread of Covid-19 down to ZERO new cases in a day. On Saturday (May 16), no new Covid-19 cases were reported by the relevant authorities in the country!
As reported by Asia News Network, the spokesman of the Thailand government’s Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration, Taweesin Visanuyothin also reported that there were zero Covid-19 related fatalities in the country yesterday.
This latest development is certainly impressive as Thailand, which relies heavily on its tourism sector was tipped to be one of the nations most heavily affected by Covid-19 in the Southeast Asian region.
In relation to the Covid-19 situation in Thailand, Taweesin further commented,
“Two months after Thailand reported the highest number of new cases on March 22 at 188 cases, now we are seeing new infections dropping to single figures.”
More impressively, 50 Thai provinces have not reported any new infections for at least 28 days!
Here’s an overview of the Covid-19 situation in Thailand from the start of the pandemic to today:
- Total infections: 3,025
- Deaths: 56
As of today, Thailand has started relaxing its Covid-19 lockdown with CNA reporting that the country is reopening malls and gyms and shortening curfew for its citizens.
Hopefully we can follow Thailand’s footsteps and achieve no new Covid-19 cases in a day! #KitaMestiMenang
