A Thai woman was assaulted with a durian peel after she had failed to make repayments to the loan shark in which she had borrowed money from.
The woman, Duangduen, shared that she had taken out a loan of 20,000 baht (RM2,434.10) from a money lender in order to open a shop with her friend. However, things went south when the interest repayment came up to a whopping 700,000 baht (RM85,193.59).
She had initially made regular repayments but the Covid-19 pandemic had then put her in a sticky situation financially as she was losing money from maintaining the shop. The loan shark then hired debt collectors, who raided the women’s’ houses and made threats against them.
To make things worse, the debt collectors had suggested that the women borrow more money to repay the old current debt, to which the women had agreed to do.
According to a report by Khaosod, they ended up having to repay 20,000 baht (RM2,434.10) a day, causing Duangduen’s friend to abandon her and run away.
Not knowing what else to do, Duangduen then reached out to the official government debt management department, who contacted the loan shark and arranged for them to temporarily halt the repayment. Unfortunately, the loan shark later visited the woman’s house demanding the money back.
But the situation reached its boiling point on July 17, when Duangduen had parked her motorcycle by the side of the road in the Lamphun province to pick up a phone call. A woman had walked up to her and slapped her across the face with a durian peel before fleeing the scene.
Duangduen has since asked the media for help as the police have not made any developments to her complaint.
She also explained that her situation remains the same as she is still receiving threats.
