You’ve heard of serial killers and serial rapists, now get ready for the serial bride.
A recent report by Coconuts Bangkok revealed that a Thai woman had been marrying men and running away after receiving dowry.
This woman known as Jariyaporn “Nammon” Buayai, 32, has been cheating multiple men of THB200,000 to THB500,000 (approx. RM25,700 to RM64,300) each in the past few years!
Apparently, Nammon would add her victims on Facebook, immediately meet up with them and have sex, then claim she was pregnant. Later, she would ‘pressure’ the men into marrying her.
After they have gotten married and she has received the dowry, she would make an excuse to leave them.
While away, an accomplice would call those victims up and inform them that Nammon had a miscarriage and she no longer wants to be contacted.
A Facebook post warning Thai men about Nammon and her modus operandi recently went viral.
One of her victims named Prasarn Tiamyam, 32, did not realise he was scammed. In February 2015, Nammon added Prasarn on Facebook and carried out her usual methods.
Of course, Prasarn wanted to take responsibility and agreed to marry the ‘pregnant’ Nammon. During their relationship, the woman refused to let him meet her parents. Sounds fishy already…
After 4 days of being married, Nammon told her husband that she had to deal with her family’s fruit business and left home. Not long after that, Prasarn could no longer reach Nammon.
Suddenly, a girl who claimed to be Nammon’s niece called him up to say that her aunt (Nammon) suffered a miscarriage and he should no longer bother her.
For years, Prasarn didn’t know he was scammed until he saw the viral Facebook post. Immediately after that, he made a police report.
Another man who didn’t want to be named told the press that he had transferred THB500,000 (RM64,293) before even getting married. After receiving the money, Nammon simply said that it was bad timing to get married due to their horoscopes. Like that also can??
According to the Facebook post, Nammon got married to five different men this August alone!
She married someone on the 1st, 5th, 18th, and 30th while the last person did not mention a specific date but cited it was in August too.
The authorities tried tracking the scammer and her family down but as they arrived in Wang Sapung where her parents allegedly lived in, they had already fled.
The police did manage to track down Nammon’s older sister though. However, after a dispute of over THB10,000 (RM1,286) which Nammon owed, she cut all ties with the scammer.
The older sister even took to the social media platform asking her little sister to turn herself in as she was very worried about their parents.
Netizens just could not believe that such a scammer could exist and get away with it for years.
One woman asked,
“What do these men even see in her?”
Another netizen claimed that this is why people shouldn’t sleep around, saying, “This is what happens when you have sex with strangers. That’s why, always get to know someone before doing anything intimate with them.”
With so many dating apps and platforms available today (think Tinder and Coffee Meets Bagel), hook-ups and one-night stands have become quite the norm among young adults.
Just remember to be careful, lah…
