Ever since Thailand became the very first Southeast Asia country to legalise the use of marijuana, tourists from all over the world including Malaysia have been flocking to visit the country.
Following the news it has been reported that many of the shops and restaurants have begun selling items which are infused with cannabis.
In a recent report by Kosmo, it was reported that the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Perlis revealed that there are food such as Tom Yam and soups in Thailand, which have been mixed with cannabis leaves as a flavor enhancer.
It is said that this was in an attempt to cause tourists to be ‘addicted’ to the dish.
Perlis AADK director Khairul Anwar Ahmad said that Malaysians who love to travel to Thailand are asked to be more careful when buying food as there are various types of dishes that can be included.
“Some put marijuana leaves into soup and Tom Yam as a flavor enhancer. Foreign tourists who do not know might eat this dish.”
“So, we ask for Malaysians who go there to travel, including in convoys, to be more careful with the products they buy,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said that based on the information and intelligence they have obtained, not all cannabis-based products can cause a person to test positive for cannabis.
“For example, cannabis-based drinking water such as ‘cannabis water’ sold in convenience stores in Thailand is difficult to detect the drug content in a person’s body,” he explained.
Nevertheless, he advised that people should be more careful and be more sensitive when buying any product sold in the neighboring country because of the fear that it has a high content of cannabis.
