Terengganu Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has urged everyone to play a part in telling off tourists who wear bikinis or other attires that are against the rules at beaches and other public areas in the state.
Samsuri said the matter during his visit to Marang to check on the aftermath of a storm which hit the locality.
Everyone plays a role in telling off tourists who wear inappropriate attires in Terengganu
The Terengganu MB was replying to a question from a reporter who asked about a viral photo of 2 half-naked visitors, believed to be foreign tourists, at the Pulau Kekabu beach in Marang just a few days before the storm hit.
Samsuri stressed that rules are rules, regardless of whether natural disasters are hitting Terengganu or not. He thus urged everyone to follow the rules, including the ones regarding attires in public areas.
The Terengganu MB further asserted that everyone plays a part in ‘reprimanding’ these tourists for not following the rules.
He asserted,
“Everyone plays a role. Not just the authorities and the State Government. Local residents can also tell off, in a nice way, the tourists if they see anyone breaking the rules or anything else that is amiss.”
Samsuri added that everyone should advise tourists who wear bikinis, including resort operators, boat operators, the Government and even members of the public.
The ‘reprimand’ should not be done rudely
However, he stressed that the telling-off should be done in an appropriate way and not in a rude manner.
Accordingly, Samsuri said that if the ‘reprimand’ by the public is done kindly, the tourists who may be oblivious to the state rules would be understanding and follow the rules.
