Bak Kut Teh, an iconic and hearty dish, is among the must-try when visiting Malaysia. And the secret to good Bak Kut Teh lies in the herbs with which the soup is boiled.

In a recent post, Taiwanese influencer @hugo_tw is dishing out some foodie fact on Instagram, declaring Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh as the ultimate comfort food!

Is Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh better?

Hugo expressed how the method of cooking Bak Kut Teh in Malaysia differs completely from that in Singapore. He further explained that while Singapore’s version features a thick peppery broth, Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh bears a closer resemblance to the Taiwanese rendition.

The caption of the influencer’s post reads,

“Unlike the thick peppery broth in Singapore, Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh is more similar to Taiwan’s medicinal herb stewed pork ribs, using a large amount of medicinal herbs to simmer, resulting in a smooth and slightly sweet broth.”

“Yes, Malaysian’s Bak Kut Teh is tastier than Singapore’s”

Hugo continued to explain as someone who doesn’t like spicy food, he finds Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh much tastier than Singapore’s.

Similar to the selling method of Taiwanese braised dishes, Malaysian-style Bak Kut Teh allows you to choose ingredients.

“If you like fattier meat, you can order pork belly, and if you like internal organs, you can add intestines. And I highly recommend ordering You Tiao (fried dough sticks) to accompany the herbal-flavored broth. It’s truly delicious,” he added.
