Bills are not fun, we all know that. However, imagine if you were this lady!
Recently, a resident in Pandan Indah, Ampang was charged RM1,916.10 in a single water bill for the month of January, reported The Star. Oh my!

Like any sane person would, Nor Hasnidah Bahari, 56, launched a report with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) in regards to her water bill after nearly fainting from looking at that amount she was charged. Okay, she didn’t nearly faint, but if I were in her shoes, I would’ve!
According to her, their previous bills were usually below RM10.
“I have been staying there for more than 20 years and this is the first time I have experienced this. The hike in our water bill was unexpected as my son and I are working and there was no increase in water usage. We have also checked the water meters but no leak was found,” she said in press conference.
Nor Hasnidah wasn’t the only one with an exceptionally pricey water bill because there were another 20 more complaints of unusually high water bills in the past couple of months. According to Leong, most of the complaints were made by residents around the area of Pandan Indah and Ampang.
Following the many complaints made, SYABAS had, later, released a statement on their website addressing the matter. Although they didn’t disclose the reason for the sudden hike on water bills, they reaffirmed that they are taking the matter seriously.

They also urge everyone to call them up at 15300 or email them at wecare@airselangor.com if there’s any sort of inquiry.
Not only that, if you feel that you have been unnecessarily overcharged, don’t worry, here what you can do:
- Email a copy of your bill account number and contact number to their official email address;
- Or send a Whatsapp message of all the documents (by taking a picture) and information to them at 019-2816793 / 019-2800919.
Thus while waiting for your bill to be investigated and verified, you can put on hold your January and February (2018) payment. You don’t have to pay them the amount for January and February (2018) until they sort the matter out.
However, if you’re worried that SYABAS will cut your water supply, you needn’t to because they had given a guarantee that your water supply will not be cut as they have decided to put the water supply cut activity on-hold till the end of March 2018.
So, if you’re living in the Pandan Indah and Ampang province, you might want to double-check your water bills to make sure you are paying the regular amount. If you think you have been overcharged, do the necessary as mentioned above.
