For action movie fans, the effects of a cool backflip or jumping off a cliff is riveting and enthralling in every way possible. But what is it like for people who actually do these stunts as their job?
Professional Malaysian stuntman Syazlie Shah has been making waves online after recently posting a clip of himself doing stunts for a local production piece.
In the clip posted to his TikTok page @syazlieshah_official, the stuntman gave a little behind-the-scenes snippet of his work. After the director yells “Action!”, Syazlie can be seen speeding on a motorcycle before hitting into a car. Taking a big hit, Syzalie literally flies off his motorbike and flips over the car, landing on his knees before rolling on the ground.
Standing up slowly, the director of the production yells “Cut!” before the clip ends entirely.
Many Malaysians praised Syazlie for his skill when manoeuvring the stunts for this production, saying that he conducted himself like a true professional.
“Respect stuntmen who risk their lives for people’s entertainment,” wrote one user, while another called Syazlie the Malaysian Jackie Chan.
Nevertheless, a plethora of individuals also accounted for the fact that stuntmen should be paid more for their job, as they go the extra mile when carrying out their responsibilities.
“Stuntmen should be paid more because they help bring characters to life with their performance,” stated another user.
In a brief conversation with World of Buzz, Syazlie revealed that he has been working as a stuntman for about six years, also dabbling in martial arts. Speaking on this specific production, Syazlie also stated in a comment under the TikTok video that he was padded during filming, which was part of the safety protocol.
